What to Expect

Emily had the experience of a lifetime. It was well rounded with a wonderful combination of experiential learning, environment, classroom and culture. We felt well informed throughout this trip and confident that she was safe and well. What I like best about Insights is the opportunity for such a unique experience combined with college credit.
– Rhoda Bernstein, Fort Worth, TX

I don’t know many people who can say they’ve hiked in the Andes, taken language classes in Cuenca, helped build a house, climbed up to 16,800 ft. of the world’s largest active volcano… it truly is amazing.
– Whitney Connell, Portsmouth, RI

I’m going home with a deeper, more sincere, intimate connection to my environment. Not just to nature, but to third world situations, to cities, to hotels, to hostels, to haciendas, to homes where other people let me eat their food and understand and share their lives. I am that much more able to welcome new ideas, new people, new foods, new anything – because I came on this trip.
– Sydney Linder, Providence, RI

I would encourage students going into their first year of college to take part in an Insights program. Self-esteem and self-awareness cannot be taught, only lived. Insights gave Alec these invaluable gifts!
– Toni Griswold, Baltimore, MD

We worked as a group and we accomplished a lot as a group. I guess that's what happens, if you arrive as a team, and work as a team, you leave with accomplishments that are appreciated to the highest valor. And you also leave not as a team, but as more of a family. It's amazing to see what you can do with determination and a will to make a difference in the world.
– Nick Angelillo, Omaha, NE

It would be difficult for a brochure or website to convey adequately the superlative qualities of this program. Each facet – adventure back packing in the Andes, Spanish language instruction at the hacienda, cultural immersion in a beautiful, colonial city, community service – could have stood alone as justification for the trip. The leaders and organizers showed a gift and expertise in organization, attention to detail, vision, and the ability to realize their vision. My son learned a lot about himself, and his personal growth (including increased self reliance, leadership and teamwork skills) was tremendous. But I think he would say the best part of the four weeks was all the fun.
– Gardner & Deborah Britt, Santa Rosa

In terms of adventure and education, you can't get much better than this. Go Insights!
– Jean Young, Chatham, MA

Connecting with the local Ecuadorians while working with Habitat for Humanity was the most important and gratifying experience, by far my favorite part of the program.
– Cyrus Atkins, Raleigh, NC

We have accomplished so much, we have managed to touch other lives and add to our own. This trip opened my eyes; I connected with people not through common pasts or experiences, but by new days and experiencing things outside of our element. If only every person could do something like this, be rewarded…
– Ema Bravman, Wilton, NH

Jenny had an amazing experience with Insights. She had a lot of fun and her Spanish improved a great deal. She met wonderful people and will always have positive memories of her summer in Ecuador. Jenny learned a lot about Ecuador and appreciates different cultures more than ever before the trip.
– Alice Hartman, New York, NY

My students observed and experienced firsthand, the most exciting wildlife viewing that the West Coast of British Columbia has to offer. Within a few short weeks of training as naturalists, they could identify the differences between porpoises and dolphins, discuss the social systems of killer whales or describe the migratory routes of humpbacks and grey whales. I was really proud of them and their enthusiasm never let up for a minute!
– Lee-Ann Ennis, Course Lead Instructor

I can say that this has been a life enriching experience, and I will never forget the time I shared with the 11 other individuals, and what they taught me about life and myself.
– Alec Griswold, Baltimore, MD

This trip not only opened Sydney’s eyes to another culture, it reinforced all her strengths - physical, mental, academic and social. She came back so enthused about life! "Pumped!" For her it was an affirmation.
– Sharon Linder, Providence, RI

Nick's Insights experience was nothing less than a life transforming experience. Nick returned from Ecuador with a sense of confidence and belief in himself I had not seen in him before. His appreciation and understanding of a culture and economy that is much different than his, had deepened and broadened.
– Barbara Angelillo, Omaha, NE
