General Info

Travel Day
This is generally an easy day, even if you have never traveled alone before. We go to great lengths to make sure everything runs smoothly. Before your program you will receive a Travel Packet containing detailed travel day instructions and contact numbers. For all our programs we have a representative helping participants in the "gateway" airports, either Miami or Seattle. If you have any questions or problems on travel day, we encourage you to call our travel line which will be provided to you in the Travel Packet. Upon arrival at our destination, each participant is asked to call home.

Clothing and Equipment
Insights provides most non-personal equipment. This includes tents, kayaks, safety equipment, cooking materials and other items required for program activities. After signing up, you will receive a recommended personal equipment list, including such items as a sleeping bag, rain gear and appropriate clothing. There is no need to go out and buy all new equipment. Many of the items will be things you already have. For other items the Insights administrative team can recommend gear and outdoor equipment stores.

Communication
On every program, participants have the chance to call home a number of times. But please keep in mind that there will be a number of days, possibly as long as a week, when phones will not be available. Depending on the program, there may also be opportunities to mail cards, email or fax friends and family. The Insights office is open during the summer for parents to call should an emergency arise at home. Our office remains aware of the group's location and activities. At times, Insights groups travel to areas where communication is difficult, but we can generally get a message through to participants within 48 hours.
